Evening Meals

We have found that is is a bonus for our guests that we provide evening meals here at Heron House, when booked in advance.  As a B & B guest, there is something comforting to know that you haven’t got to go out in the rain or get in the car on the evening you arrive.  Our two course dinner (main and pudding) followed by Coffee and Chocolates is an additional charge or £30.00 per person which will be added to your bill.

We do not offer a choice, but if you would like to call us and have a conversation before your arrival I will have a good idea of your likes and dislikes, and the dinner will respect the information you share. I aim to serve dinner at about 7.30 pm in the dining room around our dining table which you will share with any other guests who are here for dinner on the same evening.  Devon prides itself on a wide and diverse agricultural nature, the food we offer needs very little embellishment!  Why spoil good Devon Ruby Red Beef or local Game with fluff and froth.  However, having said that, it does marry very well with a nice glass or two of wine or maybe a local ale.  We are not licensed but you are very welcome to bring any alcoholic beverages of your choosing.  If you would like to put a bottle or two in our fridge, please just ask.

Parking

Just to remind you that the postcode for Heron House is EX169LY, and we are number 50 Brook Street, Bampton.  The road narrows slightly just outside my house, so for the safety of your vehicle, I would recommend parking in the Riverside Hall Car Park which is more or less opposite the house, as pictured.  Whatever you do, do not let you Satnav send you down Mary Lane, as pictured.  There is room to park two motorcycles at the rear of Heron House behind locked gates. Please contact me before booking if you wish to use these spaces.

Check-in/CheckOut

Our check in times is between 5 pm – 8 pm and check out is by 10.30 am.  Earlier check in is available if your room is ready and there is someone here to welcome you, for which there is a charge of £15.00.  Late check out is by prior arrangement only and not later than 12.30 and also incurs an additional charge of £15.00.  Should you arrive later than 8 pm without prior warning, you may be out of luck.  I just might be out for the evening!  If you know your flight does not get in to Exeter or Bristol until later, please let me know in advance so I can make arrangements for someone to be here to welcome you.  Likewise, late check in incurs and additional charge of £15.00.

Dogs

Please note – dogs attract an additional charge of £8.00 per dog per night, please familiarise yourselves with our Terms and Conditions on our Website.

Here at Heron House there are 2 – 3 resident, friendly, often muddy Cocker Spaniels and occasionally a litter of pups.  Cockers adore people, sometimes too much, and they assume all people adore them.  We appreciate that dogs are very important member of the family and bringing them away for a few days break is an all-round treat.

Like anything in life, some things are more appropriate than others, and for us the following guidelines will help you decide whether or not this is the place to come….

We do have guests whose dogs are small or medium sized and short-haired who stay in the bedrooms with their owners and everyone has been happy, but we cannot allow dogs to be left alone in the bedrooms.  It is preferred that they stay in the car, when you are unable to be with them.  We also have to respect any other guests who do not have a pet with them, and they may not be comfortable with having a dog in the dining room, but as we advertise the fact that there are resident animals we must assume that everyone who comes here is comfortable with being in a house with fury things!  The safety of my dogs and puppies is very important

and because of pups we cannot allow visiting dogs in our not so large garden, and hope you understand.

If all the above sounds as if you and your dog can happily cooperate with this guidance, Heron House, Bampton and its surroundings are doggy heaven, with fabulous walks from the door and we can give you ideas for pubs where you can eat with your dog at your feet.  We are definitely a muddy boots and muddy paws sort of house, but like to keep the mud on the tiled floors downstairs where a mop and bucket come into their own!  If you do not bring your own dog towels to dry them off before going upstairs and on to the carpet, we can provide you with one.

Infirm / Limited Mobility Guests

Our guest bedrooms are on the first floor, up an old, creaky set of slightly uneven wooden stairs with a single banister on the right as one ascends.  There is no guest downstairs loo.

The floors are uneven – Masons tiles and floorboards.  It is a very old house and we are very much beholden to its quirky nature!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
